The story behind IP Harvester
A Gap identified
The idea of Harvester was created in Trinidad and Tobago when a significant gap in the intellectual property (“IP”) system was discovered. The system provided ways to file for protection of IP, laws to enable enforcement of IP rights and certificates to show that the rights holder had exclusive rights over a name, work, invention, design etc. However, the Intellectual Property rights were limited in value as there was no market where this could be easily traded.
Undervalued rights
There are so many rightsholders that either have rights they do not know about or know what they have, but cannot get proper value out of it. IP rights holders also had great difficulty in using its IP as collateral as there was no ‘market’ where IP could be traded. This made it near impossible for financial institutions to acknowledge and hold IP as collateral since there was no market to dispose of it.
The Solution
Enter Harvester, the IP Marketplace. This platform is aimed at creating a marketplace where intellectual property rights can be traded and even funded! IP Assets have become the most valuable aspect of many 21st Century companies but it is only truly valuable if it can be traded!
